[Dems2008] Re: Bush hates being irrelevant

Leaving aside the fact that if Dubya's father had not been president we
would NEVER have heard of Boy George, there's an analogy for Bush that
to me says it all: some time, read the history of the making of Warren
G. Harding, who was simply the creation of a political operative named
Mark Hannah. Hannah saw in Harding a pleasant presentable character who
would appeal to a substantial part of the public.

Hannah cared not at all whether there was any substance to Warren G --
there was none --his objective was simply to make a king out of an
attractive guy.....and he did it, and Harding was a short-term disaster.

My impression has always been that those who'd missed operating the
levers of power for eight years (1993-2001) searched around and found
this kid George Bush -- who had plenty of name recognition and an
ostensible claim to having been head of a large state's government --
and calculated that if they were to get their hands back on the levers
in Washington, they had to float this guy out as the GOP candidate.

It has never been a wonder to me that Geo. W has so little regard for
the Constitution, his legacy, the opportunities to lead that one has
when President, vision, purpose, etc. This is just a party boy from
Yale who probably doesn't even realize on most days that he is the GOP's
nominal president. He probably just thinks the job involves state
dinners and living in a big white house behind a fence.
