[Dems2008] Re: Inflation at the wholesale and retail levels

Wholesale prices, as measured by the PPI, are up 6.7% in last year.

Eggs and milk (which tend to fall into the category of necessities for
which demand is relatively inelastic, thus permitting grocers to pass on
price increases) are up about 32%; gasoline (another near-necessity) is
up 34%;

corn and wheat up more than 40%

That a slowing economy has disallowed vendors from passing on prices so
far is not a good sign; it's a bad sign.
