[Dems2008] Re: McCain vs Hillary

About the voice thing:

  • I've been present when Hillary has spoken to small intimate groups of 30-40 persons, and she is mesmerizing:  very very effective and easy to relate to; after all, this is one damned smart woman, so the improvement is needed not on the message but on the medium
  • that said, my wife was the first to note to me that Hillary's  "screaming" into microphones when addressing large audiences is both unnecessary and counter-productive; she loses the intimacy that she is otherwise able to achieve when speaking to small groups; she should let the mike do its job
  • someone must have told her that:  I listened to her entire Founders' Day speech in Milwaukee last night (on C-Span), and it was quite good; very good, very modulated in speech tone, and I thought very effective
  • Barack has mastered the speech thing well:  he is even able to lower his voice almost to a whisper for some funny lines in his stump speech when talking to 18,000 folks.  If Hillary's Milwaukee speech is an indication, however, someone has explained to her that the stridence in "large-audience" speeches is not persuasive
