Campaigns continue to get donations even after they drop out... Just because you're not actively running doesn't mean you don't still incur expenses... you still have to pay accounts etc to file your FEC reports... yadda yadda yadda...

Edwards was asking for money (thru direct emails) right up until the
day before he withdrew. If Hillary's campaign is strapped for cash,
she's on the hook for a 5 million dollar outstanding loan, and so her
campaign needs cash if only to pay her back next week.
