Re: [Dems2008] Re: Texas's 7 largest newspapers ALL endorse Obama

Well, I am so glad you are able to get into Hillary's head to know exactly what she was thinking.
As far as Bill, hey... it is so hard to argue with his success... by golly, the guy is just as memorable as Reagan.

Julie, I can respect and relate to that:

  • I've been politically active since 1956 - a Humphrey/Kennedy/ Stevenson Democrat who goes way back.
  • I have never voted for a Republican presidential candidate, altho I would have voted for Nelson Rockefeller or Bill Scranton in 1964
  • to your point:  I went to the polls to vote on other issues in 1992 and 1996,  but neither time voted for Clinton (or his opponent).   From my first contact with Bill Clinton - and this has never changed; only gotten to be a stronger position - I've concluded that he lacks principles or anything approximating a moral compass.    I have a five-part five-factor test for president, and he fails almost all of those tests.
  • Hillary similarly -- while I share most of her values and believe her competent -- is (in my humble estimation) a polls-driven, unprincipled person who will say or do whatever she thinks (and only what she thinks) will advance her personal  political interest.  She may not be quite as dishonest and contemptible as her husband (he sets a high bar indeed), but that's not much comfort to me.
  •   I have no doubt at all why she voted to authorize the Iraq War:  it was pretty damned popular at the time, and that's what the polls said a person with presidential aspirations should do at that time.

The health of millions of children, lives as yet unlost in Iraq, a woman's right to choose, the future of civil rights (the Supreme Court), and a half dozen other important issues turns on whether or not a Democrat enters the White House in January.

I encourage you to look past that view (with which I am in total disagreement) and remember what we stand for as a party, as contrasted with what the GOP stands for. Those things are far bigger than Clinton, Obama, or McCain as an individual.

And Obama should not have run against his friend and mentor because that shows extreme disloyalty. We had a chance before Obama got in... Now the fault belongs to all the Obama fanatics. Republicans won this by Dems stupidity.
