Rafael Anchía: Obama is preaching the politics of hope - not division
Obama is preaching the politics of hope - not division, says RAFAEL ANCHÍA12:00 AM CST on Friday, February 15, 2008
During recent weeks, I have watched with increasing dismay the media suggestions that Latinos will not vote for Barack Obama in the Democratic primary because of underlying racism or tension that exists between African-Americans and us.

What surprises me most is the overly facile and inaccurate juxtaposition of Latino vs. African-Americans as a "race" conflict. I chair the National Association of Latino Elected Officials Educational Fund and, in that capacity, work with Latinos at every level of government across the country. And guess what? We are black, indigenous, white and everything in between. We are also blond-haired and blue-eyed, we are Catholic and Protestant, Republican and Democratic, and, as far as I have been able to determine, we are not unanimously supporting one candidate more than another. The idea that all Latinos speak with one political voice is a false dichotomy and makes flawed assumptions that show a basic ignorance of Latinos and our very diverse culture.

Suzi, not to disagree with a fellow Texan, but we had our meeting with the National Barack Obama team here in San Antonio and there were 300 people at the meeting. I have been out canvassing for Obama and 2/3 of households we went to were for Obama. With almost all of the rest being undecided still. I only ran across two that were for Hillary.I am not sure what you have been reading or seeing, but the republicans have been coming out against Obama also not just Hillary. I think the reason they were doing it more so to her is because in the beginning everyone assumed she was a shoe in, so they were getting themselves poised to go up against her. They are not sure what to think now. What I find interesting in the latest t.v. spot for Hillary is they are now camparing her to Robert Kenedy.....hmmm does this sound familiar? Taking (stealing) some pointers from the Obama team maybe.

These are people who want to keep B.O. out, more than they want a republican president! I am shocked myself, but very happy about it. What I am hearing is that nobody "sees the beef" when it comes to him. These are the same people who have ridiculed Hillary personally in the past, but have come to respect her dedication and public service. She is the known quantity. You B.O. supporters should really wonder why republicans heavily attack Hillary, but have left your precious B.O. alone for now. It is part of a strategy. They would love to be handed him on a silver platter as they will make quick work of him when the time comes. Hillary is our best and only real shot at the white house. Please see that! B.O. can hone his skills and come back in eight!.
