[Dems2008] 4000 Dead -- It's a LIE

Two things:

The idea that ONLY 4000 Americans have died in this
war is complete BS and the media goes along with it.

For one, that number does not include all of the
contractors (Blackwater, etc) that have died in the
war. The last I read (several months ago), about 800
contractors had died in Iraq. How many of those were
American? Does anyone know?

It's hard to find answers -- and the media has played
right along with it. The military does not keep
records of Iraqi civilian casualties and it doesn't
seem they keep very good records of contractor deaths
as well. The Bush administration learned one lesson
from Vietnam -- keep the human cost of the war off the
front page. That's why they don't allow caskets
returning home to be photographed, that's why
journalists have been "embedded" into military units,
and that's why we no longer do body counts of dead --
enemy or civilian.

Besides contractor deaths, how many Americans have
comitted suicide after returning home? How many are
brain dead and on permanent life support (they
wouldn't be counted as dead either)? I've heard that
there are wards of brain dead troops at several VA
hospitals. How many have died from complications
months after being wounded in Iraq? I bet they're not
counted either.

The fact is is that no one knows how many Americans
have died from this war -- and that is just how the
Bush adminstration wants it.

Second point -- this war was never supported by 90% of
the people. Before the war, polls showed less than 50%
of Americans favored attacking Iraq. I went to an anti
war rally with 50,000 + people in Portland Oregon.
There were huge rallies around the country.

After we invaded support went way up -- but it's
questionable what that really means since many people
don't want to publically oppose a policy when "boots
are on the ground". As the war progressed, the number
of people supporting the war fell through the floor.
