Bill Nelson is my Senator and I like him but think he is wrong on this issue. From a political standpoint, this might be good for Democrats but I feel that abolishing the electoral college would undermine federalism. We are a nation of states. A lot of small states would never see a Presidential candidate and the voice of rural America in public affairs would be far weaker if popular vote alone determined the outcome. The electoral college might not be pure democracy but neither is the U.S. Senate which gives two votes to each state regardless of population.
