The reason he lost his core was because the left wing was NOT happy
with Clinton. I am still upset over many of his policies that
continued under Bush.

I remember clearly at a Bradley rally:

Clinton is the best Republican President we have had this century.

Personally I think Nixon was to the left of Clinton.
