Reagan? Unbelievable! Reagan was a complete disaster.
And no, he was not ready to be president.
Let's see-- he ushered in a new era of conservatism, a
conservatism that blamed everyone else for the
mistakes it made. The national deficit ballooned
under Reagan as did the notion that it was no big
deal. And if someone was to blame it wasn't tax cuts
or increased military spending, it was those welfare
moms by golly!
He also brought in the notion that all government is
bad, all taxes are bad. Well now we are seeing the
result of this philosophy of government -- our bridges
are collapsing from underneath us. Let's privatize
everything, including our military!
And do you think our skies are safer? Wasn't it great
that Reagan, who campaigned with the promise of
listening to the concerns of the nation's air traffic
controller's instead fired them all? Yes that made us
all much safer.
Let's see -- what else did Reagan give us?
Our government supporting right wing death squads in
Central America. As long as they're not commies....
wasteful spending, especially at the Pentagon. $100
screws and all.
ketchup as a vegetable.
He was probably senile his last years in office, or
worst.
Please, for all of the love for Reagan from right
wingers, he was not that affective as a President.
Oh and before you respond by saying he toppled the
Soviet Union, that is just more right wing BS. Ever
hear of Gorbachev? The USSR would have eventually
fallen anyway -- it was a corrupt system to begin
with. We didn't have to spend ourselves into mass
amounts of debt, start the arms race anew and help
death squads around the world to make it happen.
So Obama folks, please stop trying to compare your guy
to Reagan. It does you no good with Democratic
activists -- you know the people you will need to go
knock on doors this fall.

Reagan came to wide attention because of a single
oration that offered hope in the midst of a losing
campaign -- Obama's 2004 keynote to the Democratic
National Convention and Reagan's 1964 "A Time for
Choosing" address delivered on behalf of Barry
Goldwater. But surely speeches aren't enough, are they?
