Dude I lost shoe leather in Jonesboro Arkansas going door to door for
Kerry in 2004, I poll watched through the 90's in Spruce Pine
Alabama. I do my part heart and soul. In 2000 I voted for Nader. Oh
before you hollar, it was through a vote switch with a Nader voter in
Wisconsin. I worked for Hart in 1984, then went right back on the
phone for Mondale. So yes I do something about it.
But. And its a big But. I respect James Carvel. I don't agree with
him on issues, he is a tad to the right of me. But I agree with his
view of Politics. There is a problem with the party. He recognizes
it... and he is right. There is an attitude in the party that people
HAVE to realize how great our ideas are and no matter what happens
that the rightness of our position will shine through. The Republican
platform is regressive, and their issues are contradictory and
logically flawed. Who on earth is fooled by stupidity like naming
your bill "Protect America"? The problem is being right over and over
(and its true we have been) has led to an air of elitism. We are not
politically savy, on top of that there is a strategy that dates back
to the 80's that does not work. The Ohio strategy is a failed
strategy.Ever wonder why election after election you end up shakling
your heads and wondering how we could have possibly lost. Now you
know why.
If you pay attention to the dialogue (again the turning point was
really the week before Wisconsin) it does not have the feel of a
party set to dominate across the nation in Novemeber. All we are
having is the same "red" state mentality that has failed us and
resulted in 8 years of Bush. Not only that but we are even talking
about Republicans swaying elections and which counts more big states
or red states. Guys ... NEWS FLASH... republican stategists do not
think in terms of red state/blue state.
So in the end ... of course I will vote for whoever wins. But we need
to be realistic. Everyday this damn nomination process goes on is one
day closer we are to a Republican victory. I DON'T believe that
hiding our head in the sand. Call your local party leader, and your
state party leader and tell them to END this. I could care less who
gets the nomination. I am Yellow dog to the end. BUT.. 5 more months
of this is MADNESS. Thats why you grab the phone ... give a quick
call and tell them we want this over. Trying to justify it or saying
ooooh we can use this disaster to count votes in PA which will help
us win in November is self delusion. Which I guess is what we are all
about.
