[Dems2008] Re: If Clinton Quits

ras, it's now all about her finding a graceful exit door. Sure there
are Obama folks trying to talk her out of the race, but there are
more-neutral folks trying to accomplish the same. The Clintons don't
have experience in doing anything gracefully, so this is uncharted
territory for them: the New York Governorship has been mentioned
(and rejected by the real candidate, Bill), and I suppose things are
a bit complicated by the fact that much of the Senate (who would be
her disciples if she were majority leader) have come out for Obama.

She's in a tough spot; I can appreciate (as we all can) that she must
be embarrassed about the futility of her run. I recall that when RFK
lost the Oregon primary in 1968 the headlines were that he was the
first Kennedy to lose an election.

Bill is such a blowhard, and Hillary has so many insecurities; it
will be a challenge to find an acceptable exit strategy for Hillary.

I suppose the best we can do is give her some assurance that she can
tube Obama's election this fall - as she and bill surely would
attempt - and then try to succeed McCain in 2012.
