- 4000 dead and probably ten to twenty thousand maimed, not to mention their families' travail and sacrifice and not to mention all the Iraqis killed, maimed, and/or dislocated forever
- Cheney as arrogant as ever about our continuing this disaster - "so?" ; Bush as disinterested as ever in reality
- lives ruined by Katrina and Rita still unrehabilitated, and a government that seems still largely unconcerned or unable to do anything
- then there's politics:
- at a time when I wish we were long past the point where it is commonplace for a woman to seek the presidency, we have the only woman candidate's campaign scarred by distortions and untruths; even I was disappointed -- as much for us as for her -- to see the stark conflict between how she described the Bosnia visit (just a week ago today most recently) and the quite different videos that were shown tonight
- at a time when we should be long past the point where it is commonplace for a multiracial candidate to seek the presidency, we have this continuing evidence of hateful distortions from the pulpit of Barack's church; very troubling; living in a locale where lots of different languages and ethnicities are seen and heard every day, I guess I'd erred: our racial divide is greater than I'd thought.
- the number of folks facing foreclosures continues to rise at a meteoric rate, just as inflation exacerbates things in just about every cost we incur, and job growth has stalled
- I'm not sure how anyone -- whether s/he supports Hillary, Barack, or even McCain -- can be optimistic about our condition these days; it's bleak as hell, no matter thru what lens one looks.
- I think I'll turn the news off for a week or so, and hope all of this goes away, or that some other candidate appears out of nowhere to run a campaign that we can be happy about.
