went to David Donald's book on Lincoln and sure enough on page
124 I found that because Lincoln had pointed out the spot where
the first U.S. blood was shed and it was in Mexican territory
the democratic seventh district in Illinois came down hard on
Lincoln saying his was a treasonable assault upon Polk. And
they said from now on the Benedict Arnold of our district shall be
known here only as Ranchero Spotty.----I must have skipped
over that whole paragraph when I read the book and so did
not know what you were talking about. My bad-------Nan
Congressman Abraham Lincoln had the nickname "Spotty Lincoln" because
he would not drop the subject of where the war started. He did drop it
to run for President. Seems like politics has been around a while.
