Re: [Dems2008] Gen Mc Peak

We are in Iraq now to avoid embarrassing Republicans.

The damage has been done. We have lost because we ruined a working
system, ruined our relationships with other governments, ruined our
military preparedness, ruined our economy and make it much more
dangerous to be an American.

If we leave now or 10 trillion dollars and 10,000 American lives, I
think the result will be the same.

We say we want democracy, but we want only an Iraqi government that
will do what the US wants. Right now, an Iraqi democracy would be
similar to the government of Iran. The good news is, the more we use
Democratic strategies instead of Republican strategies, the more the
people of Iran and surrounding nations love Americans.

Bill Clinton was brilliant with Iraq. He spent very little resources
attacking rarely to enforce the no-fly zone. A smart President, such
as Gore, probably would have expanded the no-fly zone and been able to
control Iraq and observe all potential threats from the sky. By now,
Saddam would be out of power and a government would have formed under
US and UN influence that would be more friendly to the US.

We have broken Iraq, but we should not own it.
