It is obvious that you are an Obama supporter and that is ok.  But there is a problem that the campaign has gotton too personal.  When it gets this personal, I have discovered, Democrats lose.  Republicans gain.  I do not put blame on the candidates other than when either side can't talk about their differences on the issues, they attack on a personal level as everything else is on the table.  This is the year Dems should win but will not if we don't bridge the race between the two candidates.  Whoever started this at this point is now immaterial.  The times are too important to let this continue.  I am not trying to close debate on who is better.  My personal thoughts are that the lines are drawn in this club at this time and we are just really waiting to the convention of decision.  However, with the few races here in florida involving two dem candidates for governor in two elections, unless we can change the discussion to find out how we can bridge the differences between us and our candidates, I believe we will lose like Janet Reno and McBride did in 2002, like Smith and Davis did in 2006 in their races.  In 2002, Republican Jeb Bush won and in 2006 Republican Crist won.  We need to win in 2008 and we should not allow egos to get in the way of what needs to be done.  We need to figure out how we can change the tone from personality driven contest to one which pins the conduct of the war to McCain, and his support of Bush's economic policies which have led us to disaster and his support of Bush's programs re: the continuing erosion of our civil liberties.  We can't afford to lose this election for these reasons. 

 

 

I applaud Obama for his candor regarding his Reverend and even if he does lose the General Election, we will be a few steps ahead socially since we are discussing one of the dividing factors in this nation that shouldn't be but is and that is our social progress in race relations.  We have various other issues involving immigration that I believe has to be eventually dealt with as I feel that our immigration policy has in the past been too effected by our prejudices towards various groups of people.

I totally agree with Gabrielle's posting and urge you to do some research

on the topic of Obama's female relatives instead of posting inaccurate

statements on this list. His mom was an Anthropologist and if you contact

your local university and speak to the Anthro department, you will

discover that many in the field (and they will explain about their field

to you) tend to marry those of other cultures. Perhaps this will open

your eyes. However, most important, Obama is his own person and

a noble one at that. It has been years since we have experienced such

an honest, sensitive individual running for the presidency.
