Of course, your argument is flawed because you're linking things like voting and civil rights to social programs. If you really believed in rights, you'd believe in the right to property, where all rights are derived from, and you'd understand that in order to run social programs you have to take property from someone by force. In this case, the fruits of our labor -- money. What is involved in government giving is always government taking.
As for Unions, that's completely unrelated and I am thankfully I live in a state where I can get a job without having to deal with Unions.

Thank God we outgrew it and embraced social services. Of course I can
see how you might hate that whole school lunch thing. First we have to
educate em, next we have to feed em, eventually that might lead to
