He seems to have been fascinated with street lamps which used "oil".
He also invented the frame which used 4 flat glass panes instead of one
globe. This was easier to make, easier to clean, and if broken, only
one pane required replacement.

Side notes on Franklin (my main area of study),
He was the most famous person in the world in his time. While England
fought us, it remained in fashion to wear buttons with his face on
clothing in both England and Europe (serious) and to have his portrait
and books in homes. Also among his many inventions were the flexible
catheter and bifocals. In his role as postmaster, he first published
the currents of the Atlantic and they increased the speed of some
crossings to 3x.
