itself. Instead of reading it, they just pick up a pejorative term and
use it. Over time, the actual book with its theme of what's BAD about
slavery has been corrupted, so that Uncle Tom is now a black person who
kowtows to whites, does what s/he is told, and pretends that everything
is just dandy. This is a corruption that has been accomplished by the
black people themselves, and not something forced on them by whites.
They could read the book for themselves, maybe even with an open mind
and get out of that rut. Carol
