All of his advisors have said he's wanted to give this speech for a long time... since before Rev Wright's statements blew up...

People act as though he gave the speech because he
wanted to and not because he had to. It has been
pretty much overlooked that he admitted in the speech
that he had been present during controversial
statements made by Wright. which leads me to believe
there are probably videotaped sermons out there that
show him sitting in the pews and he knows it.
