embracing the right wing attack machine. Scaife represents the worst
of the worst. Talk about troubling. Add this to Clinton's embracing
McCain as the future president, and lauding about his abilities, and
the connection now between the two campaigns this is extremely
disturbing.
More evidence Clinton is running for 2012.
Whatever the reasons for Scaife's change of heart, it's not hard to
figure out why the Clintons would embrace a former nemesis. As they
prepared for Hillary's presidential run, the Clintons made quiet
attempts to disarm, or at least neutralize, some of their most vocal
opponents. Last year Hillary accepted an offer from Rupert Murdoch
(who always hedges his bets) to host a fund-raiser for her Senate
campaign. The New York Times reported that the Clinton camp has also
made efforts to open a line of communication to blogger Matt Drudge,
who has served as a conduit for anti-Clinton GOP leaks.
Ruddy, who accompanied Scaife to the Clinton lunch, says the
peacemaking meeting came about after former New York City mayor Ed
Koch offered to put the two together. (Koch declined to comment.)
Clinton, pouring on the charm, greeted Scaife like an old friend.
"President Clinton believes in redemption and moving forward," says
spokeswoman Jennifer Hanley. Ruddy says they talked about Clinton's
charitable work and avoided opening old wounds. After receiving the
full Bill treatment, Scaife left with a new outlook on the man he had
once set out to crush. Scaife isn't ready to sign on to Hillary's
campaign—he's still a Republican. But his lawyer, Yale Gutnick, says
Bill Clinton and Richard Mellon Scaife are now members of a "mutual
admiration society." Cue the apocalypse.

TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Sunday, March 30, 2008
Hillary Clinton walked into a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review conference
room last Tuesday to meet with some of the newspaper's editors and
reporters and declared, "It was so counterintuitive, I just thought it
would be fun to do."
The room erupted in laughter. Her remark defused what could have been
a confrontational meeting.
Does all this mean I'm ready to come out and recommend that our
Democrat readers choose Sen. Clinton in Pennsylvania's April 22 primary?
No -- not yet, anyway. In fairness, we at the Trib want to hear Sen.
Barack Obama's answers to some of the same questions and to others
before we make that decision.
But it does mean that I have a very different impression of Hillary
Clinton today than before last Tuesday's meeting -- and it's a very
favorable one indeed.
WASHINGTON – Rush Limbaugh isn't the only surprise supporter in
Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign. Only thing is, this
guy is for real.
Continuing the transition from No. 1 Clinton media enemy to political
ally, Richard Mellon Scaife, publisher of the Pittsburgh
Tribune-Review and a principal owner of NewsMax.com, met with Hillary
Clinton and pronounced he now has a favorable view of the presidential
candidate and may even endorse her in the Pennsylvania primary.
This is the same man who is dead set on destroying the party. He ahs
funded hundreds of right wing think tanks/ attack machines. This is at
best troubling, at worst it points to a continuing conspiracy against
the left wing of this party. It strongly suggest that we can expect a
continuation of the policy of triangulation and a movement away from
the core values of the party. Endorsing McCain REPEATIDLY over Obama
was hard to understand. However in terms of her quest for the
presidency in 2012 it certainly provides an explination of her
tactics. Instead of using Roves tactics, she might as well use the man
himself on the campaign. Coulter, Rush, and Scaife all endorsed
Clinton. Not a crowd I want to be associated with.
