Former Indiana congressman Andrew Jacobs Jr., a 15-term member of theU.S. House of Representatives, announced his endorsement of U.S. Sen.Barack Obama for president today. In his endorsement, Jacobs citedObama's commitment to uniting the country and ending special-interestinfluence in Washington to bring about change that we can believe in.Jacobs released the following statement: "Today, I am announcing myendorsement of our Illinois next-door neighbor, Senator Barack Obama, for president of the United States. My colleague Lee Hamilton hasrightly said that Senator Obama, in the tradition of leaders such asAbraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt, has the ability to bring ourcountry together. There are two overarching issues facing our countrytoday and Senator Obama is right on both. First, Senator Obama had thejudgment and courage to oppose an unnecessary invasion withundetermined consequences in Iraq. He was right from the beginning, andnow he has a
plan to end the blunder and keep us safe by refocusing onthe most dangerous threats we face. Second, he has refusedcontributions from political action committees and federal lobbyists.Senator Obama is committed to taking our government off the auctionblock and ending special-interest influence in Washington so that wecan give the American government back to the American people. In short, when you get right down to it, I think Senator Obama is head andshoulders above his opponents."
