[Dems2008] Leaving a church

Two couples we know (both with an adult gay son whom they love very
much) left (in one case) the Methodist Church and (in the other case)
the Mormon church, even though they'd been lifelong active members.

They described to us in detail how hard that was to do but how
rewarding and ultimately comforting it was once they'd made the break.

In the case of the Methodists,they'd worked long and hard trying to get
the church to recognize same-gender unions (just bless them, instead of
condemning them, even if not recognizing them as "marriages" per se).
Ultimately, in their middle years, they found they had no real choice
but to vote with their feet.
