> Ras,
> This information and the work you're doing should be shared widely.
Bless you for enduring the tedium of research, but this isn't boring,
it's vital; it is related to the health, education and future of of
our kids on so many levels that it shouldn't just hit the stacks.

> You can teach me something else here . . . what's a pip? : ) And I
have to stop myself from abbreviating all the time here. lol
>
Pip comes from pippin.. it means someone that is exceptional or
admirable. Also can mean an event or moment. But in this case applied
to a person who has an admirable quality.
> That doc, Merchants of Cool, is kinda dated, about 55 min.s, but to
me it was worth watching. Close to classic.
> They really have a treasure trove of movies there, at
www.teachpeace.com . I noticed so many great titles that I was unaware
of, in just their media section today. And I'd be all over their site
if I were teaching or in education.
>
I watched it last night while I was studying. Pretty quickly studying
became lost to rapt attention in the documentary. As you said a
classic. I plan to peruse the titles once the break hits.
> I seriously thought I just might be missing something more subtle
and nefarious than what I found. The article was easy to find. I never
doubt there's more trash I'm passively absorbing. Such is my current
state. Guess some would call it orange alert. Pushing toward red.
Maybe I've just spent too much time in airports.
>
Too funny. To me its shocking for a station broadcasting to children
in classes to take a stance which benifits its advertisers. Wait... no
not shocking... just frustrating at this point. I think the shock
factor is about over.
> I have Levin chills, don't know Stabenow, or the others, happy to
surmise they failed (b/c they were talking about a 2002 crop), but it
does sound like they might've been the groundbreakers for those that
are trying to break the system through a push for "health," under the
guise of green as well, and yes, I did note that the program allows
for a $ .90 meal budget per child. [and I'm not going into the excused
and expanded fallen cow meat they're getting, etc; a bit of the little
I knew about previously]. Let's just say that real produce (preferably
organically grown) is good, as hempseeds are very healthful, offering
the most complete plant protein- 22% of the rda for protein and so
much more in a 3 Tbs serving! But so much obviously isn't about
promoting the health of children.
> It'll be the gov't granted subsidies/contracts/welfare for 'the
corporation' who will have greater ability to force advertising on our
captive audience of schoolchildren for the products they're selling,
over subsidies for meals for our children, to put it v v v simply?
> That $600 or handout for the masses couldn't be better used in
education? Or any other part of the infrastructure?
> They've privatized so much in the military, you can see the push
here . . . you know what I'm talking about. I'm shivering in my own
corner, too.
Its remarkable how profitible marketing services to the military ahs
become. Military contracts are no longer product oriented they are
service oriented. Welcome to the 21st century economy.
> As Marge says in Fargo, " . . . and all that just for a little bit
of money" It scales up well.
>
>
I love that phrase... scales up.
You really could work on making that doc, Ras.
> Write the info, share it and it will grow. Yes, unabashedly making a
lame Field of Dreams ref.
>
Hey field of dreams is one of three movies that can make my cry. My
last piece that I wrote for the same group was a head hunter piece on
Helium. The national strategic reserve was sold down to save the
taxpayers the expense of holding it... now there is a global shortage
and companies are making a mint. Like the movie... Privatize it and
they will come... now there is a shortage in some hospitals and
instead of using hel-ox they have to intubate patients. (sigh)
