We are already on the edge of renewing an arms race with Russia. Our
allies in europe have tired of getting involved in affairs we drag
them into. Beyond that we run the risk of further ouraging the
"islamic extremists"... if you remember they have enjoyed a resurgence
ever since we stationed our troops in their holy land which caused the
birth of Al Quida.
Now we have a DEMOCRATIC candidate suggesting that the ENTIRE middle
east falls under our sphere of influence. Would the next logical step
be to really ramp up the arms race in the middle east and endorse
placing an ABM system in the Persian gulf? Further one would HOPE that
any candidate would think twice about saying "we would hope NATO would..."
Does that mean we would go without Nato? Does it mean that we are
committing Nato forces? What about the use of tactical nukes. What if
it is a non nuclear war with nuclear weapons potentially being used.
What if isreal unilaterally used nuclear weapons? What if the
originators of the attack come from Saudi Arabia?
The point is this is a stupid question. The scenario is too simple to
warrent a blanket policy statement involving a global commitment to
use nuclear weapons in an entire region. In other words she shot off
at the mouth and pandered (since we seem to like the word) to her
conservative get tough regardless constituency. Should I remind
everyone that a large portion of the Democratic party supported our
involvement in Iraq.
