most likely quite true. My own grandmother never wanted any of us to go
the park in St. Louis because of the "darkies" that might be there, and
my grandfather told me if I swam in a public pool the "color" might rub
off on me. That's the kind of attitude that was prevalent at that time
when segregation was considered "separate but equal", before Brown v.
Board of Education. Are you saying that we should pretend that
attitudes were different? Accomplishments have nothing to do with
attitudes learned in childhood....Carol
