Re: [Dems2008] Jim Webb

In Hillary's defense none of the democrats had all the facts prior to the vote, much was misrepresented and other information was withheld mostly from the democrats.

At the time of the vote, there was much clamor to go to war with Iraq.  It is my contention that Hillary made a calculated political decision in voting for the authorization which has since backfired.
Now in hindsight, she has 20/20 vision.
There were a few senators that did vote against the authorization.  They were a distinct minority at the time of the vote. I called every one of them at the time to thank them for their vote and it did not take much time at all.
Adding insult to injury, Hillary has never admitted that she made a mistake with regard to this vote or anything else.
I do not think that the American public demands perfection from its presidents (if we did, we would not have Bush).  I do believe it is our right & responsibility to demand that our president would avail him/herself of all available information before making a decison, particularly the decision to go to war.
War must always be an option that we do not take off the table.  But it should always be a last resort.

I have a different take on that. Bush lied, but Clinton didn't even
read the intelligent reports available to her before she voted for the
lie. Just one example... I do not recall the outrage of the Democrats
at the time of the vote, or the press conferences telling us the
President was wrong... All it takes for evil to succeed is for good
men/women to do nothing. And that's what the Democrats did, almost all
of them...nothing. Why look for outrage now when there was none then?
