If we were all in agreement that the death penalty

must go, it would be gone. And yes it is a national

issue, for one thing it makes us look like barbarians

to the rest of the world.  Personally I would rather

lose an election standing up for what I believed

was right then saying what will get me elected.

Everyone is afraid of that stupid question asked of Dukakis. While I
agree with you, this is not a national issue. Its like marriage
statues or for republicans in the general election fetal tissue
research and abortion. They are topics you have to fudge around if you
want to get elected. Actually on this issue I think Obama shows he is
a very capable legislator but as a core issue its not going to win you
votes so he has largely stayed mum. While we all agree that the Death
Penalty must go, that issue is not going to win you a national election.
