Oh Brian, you are still young and so idealistic, which I so well understand.  We need idealism, but compromise is necessary in order to get anything done - there will always be people of opposing viewpoints.  Have you been watching the "John Adams" series on HBO?  It's On Demand as well, I highly recommend it.  John Adams had a very narrow view of how things should progress and nearly wrecked alliances - the older and wiser Ben Franklin had to set him straight a few times.

There's a quote from my college days that has really stuck with me -
"theory is all well and good, but it doesn't prevent the facts from existing."  You will be sorely disappointed in life if you are constantly viewing the world through the lens of what "should" be.  Hold your ideals, but don't let them consume you.   Perfection only exists in heaven, if there is one.
