But when it comes right down to it, the campaign was also poorly run.
I am a white female and would be ashamed to vote for a candidate just because she's a another white female.
I don't consider myself a victim because I'm female. When we start raising the issue of gender along with race, things get murkier, but when it comes right down to it, we don't stop if we run into sexism and or/racism, or whatever other form of bigotry we might run into. And we certainly don't wear the victim yoke.
And we don't perpetuate racism or sexism by selecting candidates based mainly on their race or gender.
I consider it a little too late in this cycle to really dig into the issues; there's not much of a difference (there never has been, imagine that) on the remaining [Dem] candidates' stances.
But I see a better record, much better ethics, and a slight edge on the issues with one. And yes, some wee bit of hope.

There are, however, other reasons not to vote for these people, and
there are plenty of reasons not to vote for McCain, other than that he
is a white man.
I cannot agree with you that women are victims per se.
We are quite capable of making ourselves victims, or considering
ourselves to be victims, but we do not have to allow anyone else to make
victims of us. If you truly consider yourself a victim, or you have
been victimized somehow because of your gender, I'm sorry for you, and
hope you've been able to find help, therapy, whatever to assist you in
getting past it....Carol
