Based on what I've seen of past conventions - up to and including the
one that nominated Kennedy, it is possible to "do a deal", or a number
of them, and sway the delegates (regular, not super) to vote a different
way on the second/third, etc., ballot. The wheeling and dealing is
spectacular when that happens and makes for an exciting convention if
not an elected candidate....Carol
