Reunion Arena has been a hot stop for politicians in Dallas, and the crowd at the Barack Obama rally may have topped all others.
His campaign estimated that it attracted 17,000. And some would-be attendees were turned away, even though seats remained empty, because Dallas Fire-Rescue officials were concerned that packing the arena would exceed its safe capacity of 17,000.
"We had seats, but I also had several hundred people standing on the railing," said fire Lt. Diana Salinas. "We were at maximum capacity, and I made the decision to stop the doors." It's unclear how many people were left outside.
How Wednesday's rally compares with Reunion's other high-profile political events:
Ronald Reagan: At the GOP convention in Dallas, the president spoke to about 10,000 at a prayer breakfast on Aug. 23, 1984.
Ross Perot: In his last campaign stop in 1992, the Dallas billionaire and independent presidential candidate drew about 5,000, barely filling a fourth of Reunion's seats.
