[Dems2008] Re: McCain vs Hillary

While we all know her "negatives" have always been relatively high
(usual estimate I see is in the 49% range), and there have been those
for whom she and Bill have always been fingernails on a chalkboard, I
don't believe that translates into a McCain win this fall.......by any
stretch.

I have every confidence that HC could and would defeat McCain: his war,
his out-doing the Dems on immigration "amnesty," his ineptitude on the
economy, and my suspicion that just under the surface there lurks a guy
who could explode in public anger if rubbed the wrong way, give me much
confidence that we are simply about the business now of determining
WHICH of two superb candidates will defeat Geo. W. McCain this autumn.

Back to your apparent point about her negatives, I'm very interested
from the poly sci perspective to see how white males act in the
primaries in two important states: Ohio (industrial working class) and
Texas (southern cowboys).

But I will agree that to the extent that a general election turns on the
marginal voter -- and that the marginal voter has more and more become
the independent unaffiliated voter -- Obama is more likely to cut into
the historic McCain appeal among independents.
